Anyway, he was also a bit deaf.. 9-).. which led him into a funny situation. He was Catholic but was the type to always stand in the back of the church (probably 'cause he couldn't hear the priest even if he was up front). So, one Sunday he decided to come visit me and my wife and he stopped at a Catholic church near our apartment on the way. Well, for once he was talkative when he walked through our door. He said, "Boy, I was very impressed with how friendly everyone is in this area!"
I asked him what he was talking about.
He said, "I decided to take a seat while the mass was going on at the church up the street, before I came here, and at one point, in the middle of the mass, everyone turned around to me and said, 'Pleased to meet you!"
He went on to tell us how he must have shaken hands with over a dozen strangers and how he was glad to tell them all that he was "Pleased to meet them too!"
I looked at my wife, confused. My wife and I are Judeo-Christian, but I was raised a Catholic and could still remember the Catholic mass... then it occurred to me.
I said, "Pop, they weren't saying 'Please to meet you,' they were saying "PEACE BE WITH YOU!" haha!
I still laugh when I think of that...
...miss that man...
